Our Story
The Quilted Bear began life as an independent haberdashery shop in Bristol, England, back in 1992. With shelves brimming with fabric, threads and sewing notions, we spent 19 happy years serving our customers face-to-face and sharing a love of making.
In 2011, we made the big decision to close our Bristol store and branch out as an online business. This exciting step allowed us to reach makers across the UK and beyond. Our stock was relocated, and a small but dedicated team began fulfilling orders from our managing director’s home.
By 2017, it was clear that we needed more space to grow. Our team was expanding and our ever-increasing stock levels were bursting at the seams! We moved into our warehouse in Clevedon, North Somerset. Having everything under one roof allows us to work efficiently, communicate easily and, most importantly, provide a smoother and more reliable service for our customers.
Developing our own brand
Over the years, we’ve grown from supplying much-loved brands to proudly developing our own ranges of quilting, sewing and crochet tools. Drawing on decades of experience and invaluable customer feedback, we create products that are practical, reliable and a joy to use.
From the first idea to the final product, our in-house team is involved every step of the way, with many products beginning life as hand-drawn ideas before being developed digitally and refined through testing. The result is a growing collection of tools created to support your creativity, whether you’re just starting out or have years of sewing experience.
In 2025, we launched Needle and Bear as a standalone range of beautiful quilting products. Alongside the favourites you already know and love, this range introduces fresh, innovative designs created to give you a creative edge and help you stand out from the crowd. We’re continually working behind the scenes on new product releases — and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next.
